Future assignment Mix

Future assignment mix (blog entry)

As the channels on the logic track were cleaned up and re-named. Firstly, I turned down all the levels so i could focus on the most important parts such as the lead vocal and guitar in this piece. I started with the lead vocal where i added 'platinum reverb' on it, i did this so it created more room and space for the vocals. For the backing vocals i put a little bit of 'gold verb' on it to support the lead vocals, i made sure the backing vocals wasn't louder than the lead vocal. I didn't put any effects on the guitar as i still wanted it to have a natural element even though its supposed to be a future space-like sound. However, i added the echo effect to synth 1 and 3 to give it that weird type 'Future- Alien' effect.

Furthermore, I put the bass amp effect on the bass so it sounds more bassy and brings you more down to Earth. I did experiment with panning but because there is a lot going on in the tracks it sounded like everything was clashing in to one ear. So i decided to use more reverb in everything as it still creates that space and that panning feeling.

I put all the drum tracks into one bus (Bus 9) which made it easier to control all the levels at the same time.  Reason for this is that there a lot of channels for just the same instrument;  Its easier and quicker doing this way as i can control the volumes together. To create a bus i changed the stereo output to a bus channel. I then put compression and EQ on the bus 9 so it wouldn't peak.

I did take a break whilst halfway creating the mix so i could listen back to what i really done and to see if it still had the same impact as when i started it. Finally i gave the track a listen a few times just to make sure nothing was peaking and it did sound well and the levels looked good and made sense for track.
